The salary of historians depends on the years of experience they carry and the organization they are working. While in teaching profession as a broad indication, an Assistant Professor may get anywhere between Rs. 15600 – Rs. 39100 and a Professor may get between Rs. 37400 – Rs. 67000.

Most of the historians take up academis and teching careers. But this subject leads to many good careers in the fileds like Archaeology, Conservation and Research, Art History, Heritage Management, Film and TV Industry (Where they work on projects like documentries and period films).
