Film direction is an art of putting a dream on to a medium called film. Film directors are the force behind a film and work together with many people who make a film happen.
What do film directors do?
Directors are the visionary’s behind the story of the film and decide the overall look and feel of the film. They closely work with producers and other people involved in making of a film and shoulder many responsibilities related to the creative aspects in the film. It is said that casting is more than half of direction. Other than casting, directors are overall in charge of film making, script, camera and editing etc where as finance and marketing are looked after by producers. They coach the actors and direct them to give performance as per the requirements of the film. They coordinate with the staff on the sets and direct the shooting of the film. Directors are also involved in the post production aspects of the films and get it edited to a final shape.
There are formal courses offered by recognized institutes and colleges, where one can learn about different aspects of film direction.
