The academic qualifications for bank officers' job is graduation which the candidates can complete from any recognized college from any UGC approved and affiliated University in India. Although any graduate can apply, commerce graduates find it easy to understand banking operations and may progress faster.
large Public ector banks like SBI conduct ther own Probationary Officers (PO) exam to take in candidates. The vacancies are advretised on their website and interested candidates need to register online and write the PO exam. For SBI Bank PO selctions three step process is followed.
Phase-I: Preliminary Examination
This is a online exam of 1 hour and assesses English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability. There are 100 questions to be answered in 1 hour. Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks to be decided by the Bank. Adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Bank (approximately 20 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.
Phase – II: Main Examination
Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and Descriptive Test for 50 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer Descriptive Test by typing on the computer. Immediately after completion of Objective Test, Descriptive Test is administered.
(I) Objective Test: The Objective Test of 3 hours duration consists of 4 sections for total 200 marks. The Objective Test will have separate timing for every section. The candidates are required to qualify in each of the tests by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.
The test assesses Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General/Economy/ Banking Awareness, English Language . The test has 155 questions and needs to be completed in 3 hours.
(ii) Descriptive Test: The Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks will be a Test of English Language (Letter Writing & Essay). The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank. Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in Objective Test.
Phase – III: Group Discussion (20 marks) & Interview (30 marks)
On the basis of Mains exam the candidates are called for Interview.
General Category students can take 4 attempts.
What happens after the Bank PO exam:
The Probationary Officers are on probation of two years during which they are given intensive training. Towards the end of their probation/training period, they are subjected to a screening process. While those Officers who achieve the predetermined standards may be confirmed and given placement in the next higher grade i.e., Officer Middle Management Grade Scale-II, others who qualify in the test but fail to achieve the standards set for placement in Middle Management Grade Scale-II, will be confirmed as Officer Junior Management Grade Scale-I. The services of those Officers who fail to qualify in this process are terminated. Bank provides immense opportunities for growth in the Bank including opportunities for postings abroad. The attractive promotion policy of the Bank provides an opportunity to the meritorious and exceptionally brilliant officers to reach the Top Management Grade in a reasonably quick time.
Many other Banks select candidates from organizations like IBPS and also take MBA qualified students.
IDBI Bank has tie up with Manipal Global Education Services Private Limited (MGES), Bengaluru to provide training in Banking and Finance to prospective candidates aspiring to join IDBI Bank as Assistant Manager Grade ‘A’. IDBI Bank invites applications from young, dynamic graduates for admissions in Manipal School of Banking, Bengaluru for 1 year Post Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance (PGDBF) comprising of 9 months of classroom studies at MGES Bengaluru and 3 months internship at IDBI Bank’s branches. After the successful completion of the course, the candidates will be awarded PGDBF from Manipal University and will be inducted into IDBI Bank as Assistant Manager Grade ‘A’ subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria.
Selection Process of IDBI Bank
a. The selection process will comprise of Online Test followed by personal interview of the
candidates, who have qualified in the online test. The online test will be objective in nature. The applicants, who are successful in the On-line test, would be called for a personal
interview.
Programme fees for this Course will be ` 3,50,000/- (Rs. Three lakh fifty thousand only) plus
service taxes, as applicable, to be paid by the students in instalments as per a fixed schedule
during the 1 year programme ( inclusive of course fees, lodging, boarding and other fees, etc.). Stipend (during the training): During the Training Period (9 Months) - ` 2500/- per month
During the Internship Period (3 Months) - `10000/- per month
Axis Bank Young Bankers (ABYB) Programme is an endeavour by Axis Bank to nurture industry leaders of the future by imparting domain expertise and skill set in the field of Banking.
ABYB is a one year, full time residential programme which will be conducted at two training campuses, Manipal Global Education in Bangalore and Amity Global Business School in Noida.
The Total Fee for this 1 year course is arond 3.5 lakhs. On successful completion of the course, the student will be awarded the 'Post-Graduate Diploma in Banking Services'. Stipend is also paid through the course. Provisional Appointment is given at the beginning of the course, assuring employment after successful completion of course.
Candidates are be selected by Axis Bank through a selection process consisting of an online Aptitude test followed by an interview.
IFBI offers Post Graduate program in Branch banking. Post Graduate Program in Branch Banking Services is to craft first-day, first-hour ready banking professionals for YES BANK. The program trains graduates/post graduates on banking domain, usage of banking application software and customer-oriented service and sales skills.
The PGP in Branch Banking Services is a unique three-term program spanned over 3 months. The program consists of four hours of classroom study and three hours of supervised self-study per day. Supervised self-study takes place after the classroom sessions. Students upon successful completion of PGPBS qualify for employment with YES BANK. IFBI and YES BANK will provide the selected candidates with a Conditional Offer Letter (Conditional offer letter will mention that candidates will be placed in YES BANK on successful completion of PGPBS program). On successful completion of the 3 month program, YES BANK will offer letter of employment to the candidates.
Selection of IFBI course: Candidates will have to appear for IFBI’s Common Entrance Test (ICET), which is an online aptitude test. The candidates are advised to practice their keyboard skills and become familiar with online tests by taking an online practice test. Admission to IFBI PGPBS program is granted based on the performance in ICET, IFBI Interview and YES BANK’s Interview. IFBI has centres all across India.
Course Fees
The banking course fee and duration of these courses varies from one university to another. However, normal graduation courses take three years and Master’s Degree takes 2 more years. However, courses in banking and insurance are meant for one year only. There are many coaching institutes also that prepare the students for the upcoming Bank PO exams.
