They vary widely. Academicians and people working in industrial houses get paid well.

Anthropologists are involved extensively with field work and research. There are various institutes which employ anthropologists most importantly the Anthropological Survey of India. Many anthropologists take teaching assignments in various universities which offer courses on anthropology. Field work often involves study of certain ethnic groups or ancient artefacts in remote locations for long periods. The field work is usually physically and mentally exhaustive and involves working in locations with low comfort levels. 

Academic institutions are the largest employers of anthropologists and one can teach and also do research. Government and non government institutions like Planning Commission and the Commission for Scheduled Castes, Tribes and Other Backward Classes, the WHO, UNESCO and UNICEF etc also hire anthropologists. They also find employment in large industries where they work in controlling labour problems.
