Starting pay packages for statisticians vary with the institute they are passing out and their prior experience. In the past, pass out students of ISI, Kolkata were offered average pay of Rs 12 lakhs per annum and Delhi University students were offered average pay package of Rs 4.5 lakhs.

He has a vast professional experience of over 40 years at the Indian Statistical Institute in the capacity of Superintending Statistician. He has lead the Research and Training School as its Head and also as Director in the same organization. Before that he has served as National Professor. Further, his rich experience in the field of statistics includes 20 years in several universities comprising of United States and United Kingdom which also includes University of Pittsburgh, University of California at Berkeley, Pennsylvania State University, Cambridge University and Hopkins University.
