Starting pay packages for statisticians vary with the institute they are passing out and their prior experience. In the past, pass out students of ISI, Kolkata were offered average pay of Rs 12 lakhs per annum and Delhi University students were offered average pay package of Rs 4.5 lakhs.
Statisticians work in government and they are in huge demand in the private sector also. Post Graduate statisticians with certifications in statistical packages have better job prospects. Some of them join Market Research and Financial Sector.
Opportunities available are as Manager in Data Management, Data Scientist, Project Manager Statistician, Data Analyst: sales and marketing, Business Analyst, Business Intelligence.
Studnets can also apply for Indian Statistical Services in the Government of India. The selections are done on the basis of exam conducted by UPSC and graduates with statistics/ mathematical Statistics / Applied Statistics from a recognized university are eligible for the examination.
