Who is an Optometrist?
Optometrists are professionals who test eyes and prescribe spectacles. Essentially they perform eye examination and perform other related functions. They help in correct diagnosis of eye problems by questioning the patient about visual problems and medical history. They also examine the binocular vision to assess the need for exercises, special lenses or other forms of treatment. Examination of the health of the eyes from front to back, using a variety of techniques including a biomicroscope and an ophthalmoscope. In case of detection of abnormality they usually indicate the need for specialist tests and referral to the Doctor. Although many people visit the optometrist for examinations, As such there is no 'standard eye examination'. The examination needs to be tailored for each individual patient and thus optometrist employs different techniques to examine the patients.
